Jay Jermyn is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer and musician based on the Gold Coast. His work is layered, collaged and spliced with an aim to create new ways of looking and listening by establishing multiple focal-points and planes of reference for his audience. He graduated with a Bachelor of Digital Media majoring in 3D Design from Griffith University Queensland College of Art (2017). His work has been exhibited in national and international group exhibitions including: Retreat, The Walls Art Space, Miami Queensland (2020); Airspace, Metro Arts, Brisbane (2020); Creative development grant presentation, Home of the Arts (HoTA), Gold Coast (2018); and Boundless Boundaries, Stolenspace Gallery, London (2020). He is the recipient of numerous Grants and Awards including Generate (2019) and Gold Coast Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Germinate and Activate music (2019). A recent finalist in the Lake Art prize, Lake Macquarie museum of Art and Culture (MAC), 2020.
Valence signals the artists first major solo exhibition and collates a body of work produced both during and after lockdown. Loosely framed around his interest in industrial design and incorporating skills drawn from his experience as an electrician, the works in Valence reconcile material and aesthetic sensibilities to propose new ways of looking at and/or experiencing art. Notions of self, its fragmentation and dissolution within the contexts of both nature and virtual spaces are explored in wall-based works, constructions/sculptures, photography, sound and performance.
