BANANAs are a new monthly social sound series on Saturday/Sunday afternoons as The Walls presents sound artists, artists who play with sound and projections, VJs and noise makers. It’s your chance to go a bit bananas before the start of the working week, and to indulge in some delectable delights as audio and visual currents flow in tune with the Coral Sea on our doorstep.

For July 25, our special guests are:
TIAFAU is a DJ and designer based on the Gold Coast. He’s recently returned to our shores from living in Chile and Canada where he worked as a digital creative. TIAFAU has been a regular on the Gold Coast sound scene, spinning regular sets at Elsewhere along with other venues on the GC, and clubs in Brisbane and Sydney. He’s mixed it up at Summafieldayze and Future Music festivals, and he created and produced LILT, a short series of concept electronica events meshing visual experiences and live electronic music.

JASON HAGGERTY is a visual artist based on the Gold Coast and is currently completing his honours year at Queensland College of Art, Gold Coast. The central concern of his research is the growth and rapid evolution of cyberspace, the ways in which intense streams of information are shifting the nature of human interaction, concepts of self, popular culture, social networks, advertising, and the duality of online and offline presence and the overlapping of online content into real life. Utilising technology and new medias such as motion and body tracking, video, computer software, audio synthesisers and 3D modelling/printing, Jason’s practice challenges the conceived notions of art making, with installations and digital sculptures that place the viewer’s experience as paramount. Jason is The Walls’ Winter Artist in Residence and his exhibition BODYPOD will open on August 1.
