THE SUN SETS ON THE WALLS

Dear Artists and Audiences,

After much consideration our board and staff have unanimously agreed that it is time for the sun to set on THE WALLS’ operations. This sundown is a capstone to nine years of serious and considered artistic contribution to contemporary visual art in Australia. Like all good artworks, there comes a moment when it is time to put down the tools, sign-off, stand back and reflect.

From humble beginnings as two white walls on the outside of Rebecca’s studio in 2013 to a fully fledged and funded art space, THE WALLS has supported myriad artists and this has been reciprocated with a dedicated following locally, nationally and internationally.

Dubbed by some as a ‘shit hot art space’, THE WALLS’ aura has been coloured by the hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors who have made the space what it is, and for this we’d like to thank you! From our first show by PAUL WRIGLEY to our last by MERINDA DAVIES, and our love affair with the other Miami (FL), we’ve ridden the wave and made some waves too, and we’ve decided to let the sun set while the vibes are high.

It is exciting times for THE WALLS’ current staff and board members as they look to the horizon, forge new projects and continue to contribute their wealth of experience to the community.

We’ll be wrapping up at the end of the year. Please join THE WALLS board, staff, artists and creative community in celebrating a final Miami sunset at THE WALLS on Saturday 4 December from 5pm, save the date!
