CLOSING EVENT: THE BOLD MARK + LAST SUNDAYS
ANNA WHITAKER

WHEN: 29 Aug | 2021

COST: FREE

TIME: 2-5PM

CLOSING EVENT with the artists 2-5pm, + LAST SUNDAYS (4-5pm) with sonic artist ANNA WHITAKER hosted by MERINDA DAVIES

LAST SUNDAYS is our monthly event program celebrating the final day of each exhibition. Join us and the artists in celebrating the final day of THE BOLD MARK.

Live at THE WALLS, sonic artist ANNA WHITAKER will explore the concept of mark making through sound.

THE BOLD MARK brings together a duet of new works by Gold Coast artists RAE SAHELI and SALLY WRIGHT. Their works cross-over in a shared focus on surface tensions and processes driven by the physical, and sometimes forceful, act of mark making. Collectively THE BOLD MARK hones in on the two dimensional surface as a target for graceful and explosive gestures.

Anna Whitaker is an Australian sonic artist with a background as a classical violinist, recording engineer and composer. As a composer-performer, Anna’s work has been featured front and centre of productions and theatre companies including La Boite Theatre Company, Bleach Festival, Anywhere Theatre Festival, Brisbane Festival and The Farm Company. These works have been written for a variety of formats, including playhouses, music for screen and immersive surround sound installation. The diversity of challenges – ranging from subtle underscoring and subliminal influence to heart-wrenching scores and floor-shaking impacts – share equal appeal. On most given days, you can find Anna in a sonic laboratory, dissecting and distorting sound beyond recognition for her latest musical offering.

Free event!

This event will also be live-streamed via Instagram @thewallsgc

This LAST SUNDAYS program forms part of SALLY WRIGHT’s and RAE SAHELI’s exhibition THE BOLD MARK at THE WALLS from 7 – 22 AUGUST, 2021.
